Achievements & Success Stories:
I recently wrote a short article on lived experience of working in the disability sector, with a late diagnosis of ADHD. This article was published by My Right 2 Voice via their website and social media platform and reached many viewers in the sector. This was not only an achievement in me being able to unmask myself, but to share my personal and positive success story with others who may be experiencing something similar in their own lives.
Success Story:
Over the past 2 years, I had the honour in supporting a young man with Autism and ADHD, who was in the final 2 years of high school. Throughout the early stages of school engagement, this young man suffered significant trauma, due to being bullied for his cultural background and diagnoses. He found solace in engaging in online extremism and antisocial activity and as a result, he found himself entangled in the justice system for two years of his crucial developmental life. He presented with significant reoccurring challenging behaviours, which posed many risks in potential reengagement with the justice system. His family and informal support network were experiencing carer burnout. As a result, the family and the clients support had given up and did not know what to do next.
I was able to identify common interest’s I shared with the client and focused on a providing a strengths-based approach in redirection and self-reflection of his presenting behaviours. Over 2 years, I was able to slowly build trust with this young man and develop very strong rapport with him and his family. Once I had established a trusting relationship with him, I was able to link him with relevant supports and services, who supported him navigating this “new life” and prepared him for adulthood. This gave the client and his family hope and positivity for the future again.
This young man has now completed high school and is studying independently with a strong focus on increasing his skillset and creating the building blocks for his future career and interests in computer tech. He has begun engaging in community sports and activities such as Soccer and martial arts and has strengthen his connection with family and friends. It was an absolute pleasure to be a part of this young man’s journey and to work with such a strong care team to support his in his life achievements and working towards his personal and NDIS related goals.

"I feel honoured to be working in this sector and providing support to individuals and families, to feel empowered, heard, and to take control of their personal journey and lead the way for all. It is an absolute joy to be a part of peoples personal development, achievements, and pathway to meeting their goals and living a fulfilling and meaningful life."
